This line is derived from the Baba Akhun line, which was founded by the stallion of
the same name, the son of Kurban Niyaz, grandson of 2a Boinou.
Baba Akhun was from the group of excellent stallions bought in 1914 for Ashkhabad studfarm.
Unfortunately, he died soon during the evacuation of the studfarm.
Among his offspring belongs e.g. Baba-Durmaz, who was used as a breeding stallion later
at Degeress Studfarm. But the best of them was buckskin stallion Mele Chadji Nur, the mount
of well-known chief of basmach band, Djunaid-Khan. Mele Chadji Nur, sometimes called
by the nickname Khivian, sired two outstanding stallions - Toporbai and Tugurbai
(later the sire of founder of the line, 100 El).
244 Toporbai, golden buckskin, was born in 1918. According to Studbooks III.-V. was
his dam mare Khadji Bal (by Baba Akhnun), daughter of famous mare Oraz Niyaz Karadashli,
dam of 175 Mele Kush. According to book written by Tatyana N. Ryabova "The Akhalteke lines"
was his mother directly Oraz Niyaz Karadashli. In every respect, the offspring of Toporbai
and Mele Kush was quite similar, the children of Toporbai were more typey and with the
better line of back.
Toporbai himself was not without faults - he was very narrow in chest, with sable hind legs
and longer back, but with a lot of type, and his offspring didn´t inherit these faults.
There is no evidence about performance of Toporbai, but as M.I. Belonogov wrote, his
offspring had very good speed predispositions and some horses were succesfull on the racetrack
(e.g. 281 Yulduz, sorrel, born 1923, who raced in Frunze and Tashkent against English
Thoroughbreds). Unfortunately, in 1929 was Toporbai moved to Ural, where he covered
mares of different breeds.
Line then continued through three stallions - 161 Mamed (244 Toporbai-Akhalteke mare),
173 Mele Kirgi (244 Toporbai-Velidel) and 044 Tillya Kush (244 Toporbai-Movlyan Berdy),
who was used widely.
044 Tillya Kush, golden buckskin, born 1926, had 25% amount of English Thoroughbred
in his pedigree, through his mother Movlyan Berdy, daughter of English Thoroughbred Burlak.
Tillya Kush inherit by his TB grandsire very correct conformation, but at the same time,
he saved the Akhalteke type.
He succesfully raced (already as a yearling!), then was used as a breeding stallion
in Uzbekistan, Karabair Stud and then was returned to Turkmenistan, to 69. Studfarm.
His children were in most of the cases of correct conformation, typical, with good
performance (mare Garga, 2200m-2:41,5s, stallion Vezir, 2200m-2:40s). The best offspring
was born out of daughters of Mele Kush and Everdy Teleke.
In connection with Mele Kush line were born horses with lively temperament, dry,
firm legs and great speed and stamina. We can name mares 977 Togdari and 997 Tyz and
stallions 618 Touz Kush and 596 Tezir (sire of later recordman 435 Kara-Mashal).
In connection with Everdy Teleke line was born e.g. horse like Tashauz, black, with
outstanding type, or 588 Tarlan, the winner of inter-breed comparitive race in Moscow in
1945 on distance 500 km. Among participants were Akhalteke horses, Iomuts, Russian
and Orlov trotters, Kabardiners and Karabairs. Each horse had to carry the weight of
100 kg, the distance was covered in 62 hours and 10 minutes in the rain and on heavy
muddy track. After finishing the distance, the horses had to pass the flat race on 2000m.
Tillya Kush´s son, 347 Vezir (out of 026 Vekherzen, by 026 Kuli-Khan) sired outstanding
racehorse, dark buckskin 432 Karlavach (out of 60 Barok), who later founded own line.
Toporbai line achieved the greatest boom in 30.-40. years of 20th century, in these
days participated only with around 2% in the structure of Akhalteke Breed.
Most of today´s Toporbai horses are descendants of 969 Rokot (out of 1842 Rovshan),
great-grandson of 435 Kara Mashal. Rokot was born in 1974 in Chagorta Studfarm, Kalmykia,
where he was used as a breeding stallion, two years he "worked" in Stavropol studfarm.
Among his sons belongs elite black stallion Yazyr (out of 1880 Yalma, by 919 Sere), golden
bay Azhdar (out of 2092 Ada, by 949 Dornazarbek), the champion of 1994 in Piatigorsk,
or elite bay stallion 1069 Kortik (out of 1987 Korsika, by 897 Kizil), who was used as
a breeding stallion at Akhalt-Servis Studfarm
and who is the sire of breeding stallions Makat and Grand-Kuli.
From daughters we can name elite mare Mancheta (out of 1620 Millet), Maisa
(out of 1826 Miana), the champion of the breed in 1986 in Krasnodar, Opera
(out of 2406 Odessa), the mother of World champion Omelia and two Reserve champion mares
Omega and Olympia, then Granka (out of 1735 Gerenzal), the producent of good race horses.
Within the bounds of the line were established three succesful families, founded
by mares 772 Kizyl Mer, 831 Makh and 1359 Tayar.
To family of 772 Kizyl Mer (Mele Kirgi-Kizyl Arvat), buckskin, 1936 ,belongs e.g. mare
1256 Kizylgul (569 Skak), dam of stallion 772 Merkez, or mare 1254 Kesketli (448 Kir Sakar),
dam of 917 Sektor (779 Peren) and Koimet, who was the dam of 875 Gurgen (721 Kaplan).
To family 831 Makh (Mary-Khamar), buckskin, 1943, belongs 1244 Kachkyr (448 Kir Sakar),
dam of breeding stallions 781 Polot (828 Fakirpelvan), 685 Angar (687 Arsenal) and
914 Polotli (779 Peren) and also the dam of mare 1243 Kachakhchi (432 Karlavach), who was
the dam of 945 Gerden (721 Kaplan), 981 Garazat (721 Kaplan), 980 Garagunon (721 Kaplan)
and 1014 Telekush 2. (818 Telekush).
1359 Tayar (044 Tillya Kush-658 Elin), bay, 1946, is the mother of stallions
831 Farfor (834 Fed), 881 Kazbek (736 Keimir), 795 Serdar (797 Signal) and mares
1669 Taza (736 Keimir) and 1232 Karlovach (448 Kir Sakar).
